Who Can Apply?

UNBROKEN scholarships are generally available to children and teens ages 8–17 who are facing grief, trauma, or other significant life challenges and could benefit from a meaningful experience with horses. Applications outside this age range may be considered on a case-by-case basis when appropriate. No previous riding or horse experience is required. Families in York and Cumberland Counties, Maine, may apply for assistance with eligible riding lessons, horsemanship programs, or other approved equine experiences.

Applications are reviewed individually based on the child's circumstances, the potential benefit of the experience, available scholarship funds, and access to an appropriate equine provider. If a scholarship is awarded, UNBROKEN will work with the family to coordinate the opportunity, with scholarship funds paid directly to the approved equine provider—not to the family. Our goal is to make the process simple, respectful, and focused on giving children an opportunity to build confidence, resilience, connection, and hope.

Please complete all sections of this application as fully and honestly as possible. We understand that every child and family has a different story, and there are no “right” answers. The information you provide will help UNBROKEN understand your child’s needs and determine whether an equine experience may be a good fit. Please provide enough detail for us to understand how your child could benefit from this opportunity. All information submitted will be treated with care and used only for the purpose of reviewing the scholarship application.  There is no cost to apply.

After your application is submitted, UNBROKEN will review the request and contact you regarding next steps. If approved, we will work with you and an appropriate equine provider to coordinate the experience.

Submitting an application does not guarantee funding, and scholarship awards are subject to available funds and approval by UNBROKEN.

1. Apply → 2. UNBROKEN reviews the request → 3. If approved, we coordinate directly with an eligible equine provider.
