This is UNBROKEN
Our Story
UNBROKEN began with a simple realization: sometimes a child needs more than words. After more than two decades in law enforcement, founder Eric Small had seen children and families during some of the hardest moments of their lives. He often wondered what happened to those children after the emergency was over. Then, one evening at a riding arena, he watched an 11-year-old find confidence, connection, and accomplishment while working with a horse. That experience stayed with him—and the idea for UNBROKEN was born.
Our Vision
UNBROKEN envisions a world where all children can overcome their adversities and emerge stronger, equipped with the skills and emotional strength to face life's challenges. Through our programs, we aim to inspire hope and foster a community dedicated to the well-being of our youth.
Our Mission
UNBROKEN provides scholarships that connect children facing grief, trauma, and significant life challenges with meaningful equine experiences. We believe financial circumstances should never prevent a child from discovering the confidence, responsibility, connection, and hope that can grow through time spent with horses. Our goal is simple: remove the financial barrier and open the gate.
How UNBROKEN Works
UNBROKEN partners with established barns, riding programs, instructors, and equine professionals.
Families apply for scholarship assistance, and approved funding is paid directly to the equine provider. Scholarships can support riding lessons, horsemanship programs, and other meaningful equine experiences. No previous horse experience is required. Sometimes the journey begins simply by walking through the barn door.
Our Board
UNBROKEN is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors responsible for overseeing our programs, finances, partnerships, and future direction. We believe UNBROKEN should always be bigger than any one person. Our Board helps ensure the mission remains at the center of every decision we make.
Accountability
Every donation represents someone placing their trust in UNBROKEN, and we take that responsibility seriously. We are committed to transparency, responsible financial stewardship, and directing our resources toward opportunities that benefit children. As we grow, we will share our impact—including scholarships awarded, children served, equine experiences funded, and dollars directed to programs.
Because sometimes hope has four legs.

"I believe every child deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and find hope through the power of connection with horses."
~Eric Small
